Parts Of The Exhaust System

The exhaust system is an extremely complex collection of parts that filter and vent the gases that are produced during the internal combustion process. Long gone are the days of a few pipes and a muffler spitting out pollution and particulates into the environment unchecked. Advances in cleaning and filtering technology have not only resulted in a much cleaner operating car, but in better fuel efficiency as well.

The exhaust system on most vehicles today is stainless steel or some other non-corrosive metal. This has led to a greatly increased lifespan of modern exhaust systems and many can outlast a car with basic servicing. Some of the parts of the exhaust system include the muffler, catalytic converter, oxygen sensor, exhaust manifold, and the transport pipes and hardware that help complete the system. Occasionally these parts do fail or become loose from rough driving and need to be replaced.

When it is time to have your exhaust system repaired, we recommend you give us a call at our auto service shop in Hampton, VA.
