Tips to Keep the Little Ones Safe this Halloween

Keeping your children safe should be the number one priority when taking them out trick-or-treating. Of course you want them to have fun, but Halloween is a dangerous night for pedestrians. According to the National Safety Council, children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than on any other day of the year. To help keep children safe follow these tips:

  • Keep an eye out for children crossing the street. They may not use crosswalks or intersections when crossing, so it's important to watch out for children.
  • Use your headlights, day and night. This makes your car more easily visible to trick-or-treaters.
  • Avoid distractions while driving. Distracted driving is a major cause of car accidents. Don't partake in any activity that takes your attention away from the road.
  • Drive slower than the speed limit by at least 5 miles per hour. Children are so busy having fun that they sometimes forget to look before crossing the street. Driving slower allows you more time to react.
