The History Of Horsepower

Here at Priority Honda Hampton, we understand we may use terms many of our customers do not know completely understand but we want you to have the best possible chance of getting the perfect vehicle for your needs. Horsepower is something many of us find confusing and often needs a little explanation.

The basics of horsepower are this is a measurement of the amount of work completed over time based on the amount of work completed by a single horse over the course of a minute grinding corn in a mill. James Watt was an 18th-century English industrialist who lent his name to the unit of power used for light bulbs and would create the horsepower calculation of a single horse completing 33,000 pounds of work per minute which is still in use today.
